Born 1923, Saul Leiter is an American photographer and painter whose early work in the 1940′s and 1950′s was an important contribution to what came to be recognized as The New York School. Since the 1940s, Leiter, an inveterate walker, has trawled the streets of New York, capturing its colors and spirit. His liking for disarray, solitude and elusiveness make him a unique artist, quite unconcerned about joining the throng.

His book, Early Color published by Stiedl is an essential part of any photographic book collection.
